Situated in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Warwan Valley forms part of Kishtwar, a region celebrated for its dramatic scenery and demanding trekking paths. The trek is known for its untouched natural beauty and the sense of remoteness it offers to adventurers. Throughout the Warwan Valley Trek, the altitude varies, with the highest point being Margan Pass (or Margan Top) at approximately 4,100 meters (around 13,451 feet) above sea level. The journey begins at Gulabgarh, which is at a lower elevation, and gradually ascends through diverse terrains. As trekkers progress along the trail, they encounter a variety of landscapes, from lush meadows and dense forests to rugged, rocky terrain. During the summer months typically from June to September is considered the trekking season in the region due to the following reasons:
Weather: During the summer months, the weather in Warwan Valley is relatively milder and more predictable. The temperatures are moderate, making it comfortable for trekking. The higher altitudes also become more accessible as the snow melts, allowing trekkers to navigate the trails safely.
Blooming Meadows: The valley comes alive with vibrant colors during the summer as the meadows and alpine flowers bloom. The picturesque landscapes make the trek even more rewarding and visually appealing.
Accessibility: The roads leading to the starting point of the trek in Gulabgarh are generally open and accessible during the summer months, making it easier for trekkers to reach the region.
Lakes and Streams: The glacial lakes and streams in the Warwan Valley are at their fullest during the summer, creating a serene and tranquil environment along the trekking route.

Day 01: Pickup to you from Srinagar Drive to Panikhar

The journey from Srinagar to Panikhar spans approximately 185 kilometers and typically takes around 7 to 8 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. This scenic route follows the Srinagar-Leh Highway, offering breathtaking views of the picturesque landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir. Starting in the beautiful city of Srinagar, known for Dal Lake and its Mughal gardens, the journey takes you through Sonamarg, a valley famed for its lush meadows and the Thajiwas Glacier. From there, you'll ascend the renowned Zoji La Pass, a crucial mountain pass offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks.
Continuing on, you'll pass through Drass, one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth, and then reach Kargil, a town of significant historical importance. The route also takes you through Mulbekh, known for its ancient rock carvings and the statue of Maitreya Buddha. Finally, you'll arrive in Panikhar, situated at around 10,700 feet, offering mesmerizing mountain views and serving as a gateway to treks like the Nun Kun Trek.

Day 02: Trek from Panikhar to Denora Camp 12 km

The trek from Panikhar to Denora Camp spans about 12 kilometers and takes around 7 to 8 hours, depending on pace and conditions. Starting at Panikhar, situated at 10,700 feet, the route features a gradual ascent through meadows and villages, with stunning views of the Himalayas. Trekkers may encounter glacial streams that add a touch of adventure to the journey. The trek concludes at Denora Camp, located at approximately 12,375 feet, offering a serene camping spot surrounded by majestic mountains. Proper preparation and guidance are essential for a safe and enjoyable experience.

Day 03: Trek from Denora Camp to Kalapari Camp

The trek from Denora Camp to Kalapari Camp spans approximately 3 kilometers and typically takes around 2 to 3 hours, depending on your trekking pace and the trail conditions. This section of the journey is relatively easier compared to the previous day’s trek, offering a gentle ascent through the stunning landscapes of the Warwan Valley. As you leave Denora Camp, you'll traverse through lush meadows and rocky terrains, with the possibility of crossing small, pristine streams that add to the charm of the route.
The path is surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Himalayas, providing trekkers with breathtaking, panoramic views at every turn. As you approach Kalapari Camp, situated at an altitude of about 12,875 feet, you'll find yourself in a tranquil setting that's perfect for unwinding and soaking in the natural beauty around you. The campsite offers an ideal spot for relaxation, with its mesmerizing views of the valley and the towering mountains that encircle it.

Day 04: Rest day and Exploration Day

During the Warwan Valley trek, a rest day is a perfect chance to relax and recharge from the physical demands of trekking while exploring the surrounding area. These rest days are essential for allowing your body to acclimatize to the high altitude and to prevent exhaustion and altitude sickness. Here are some activities you might consider on your rest day at Kalapari Camp

Day 05: Trek from Kalapari to Kaintal via Lomvilad Pass

On the Warwan Valley trek, you’ll tackle a challenging journey from Kalapari to Kaintal, covering approximately 17 kilometers in around 11 to 12 hours. This demanding trek involves crossing the Lomvilad Pass, situated at about 14,495 feet.
Kalapari Camp: Begin your trek at Kalapari Camp, located at 12,875 feet. Enjoy a serene sunrise and the beautiful surroundings before setting off.
Ascent to Lomvilad Pass: The trail features a tough ascent to Lomvilad Pass. The path is steep and rocky, requiring significant stamina and determination.
Views from Lomvilad Pass: At the pass, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of majestic mountains and valleys, making the strenuous climb worthwhile.
Descent to Kaintal: After crossing the pass, descend towards Kaintal. The descent can be challenging, so proceed with caution.
Arrival at Kaintal: As you approach Kaintal, enjoy stunning views of the valley. This beautiful campsite provides a peaceful setting for the night.
Overnight Stay: Set up camp at Kaintal and rest after a demanding day. The altitude and picturesque environment make it an ideal spot to recuperate and reflect on the day’s adventure.

Day 06: Trek from Kaintal to Humpet Camp

From Kaintal to Humpet Camp, you’ll trek approximately 16.5 kilometers in about 7 to 8 hours, navigating a mix of ascents and descents. Starting at Kaintal Camp, situated at 14,495 feet, the route includes some steep, rocky sections, demanding careful footing. Along the way, you’ll enjoy picturesque views of the Warwan Valley and surrounding mountains. Upon reaching Humpet Camp at around 11,120 feet, you'll find a serene spot to rest. Although this day’s trek is shorter, it still requires good fitness and stamina. Trek with a guide or agency for safety, and be prepared for changing weather conditions. Take time to appreciate the stunning scenery and relax at the peaceful campsite before continuing your adventure.

Day 07: Trek from Humpet to Sukhnai Camp

Starting from Humpet Camp at 11,120 feet, today's trek to Sukhnai Camp covers about 16 kilometers and takes 7 to 8 hours. The trail features a gradual descent through lush meadows and forested areas, offering a refreshing change in scenery. You may encounter glacial streams or rivers, adding an adventurous element to the journey. As you approach Sukhnai, enjoy the serene beauty and charming landscapes of the region. Sukhnai Camp, located at 9,320 feet, provides a picturesque setting for the night. Although the descent is easier compared to previous days, it still requires good fitness and endurance.

Day 08: Trek from Sukhnai to Basmina and drive to Mati Gawran

Starting from Sukhnai Camp at 9,320 feet, today’s trek to Basmina involves a gradual descent through meadows, forests, and charming hamlets. Upon reaching Basmina, situated at 8,350 feet, you’ll get a glimpse of local life and culture. Afterward, enjoy a scenic drive to Mati Gawran, where you’ll set up camp for the night. Despite the easier descent, the day still requires good fitness and endurance, so trek cautiously and take breaks as needed.

Day 09: Drive from Mati Gawran to Srinagar

On the final day with Team The Mountain Hike, you'll drive from Mati Gawran to Srinagar, covering approximately 111 kilometers in about 3 to 4 hours. Departing early in the morning should get you to Srinagar by 1 pm, allowing some buffer time for any unforeseen delays.

Exclusions:

  • Any kind of personal expenses.
  • Food during the transit.
  • Insurance.
  • Mules or porter to carry personal luggage.
  • Anything not specifically mentioned under the inclusions.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Change/Cancellation of Booking by the Participant

Process

The cancellation process is completely automated. Please log in to your Mountain Hike account and follow the instructions on your dashboard. You can choose between Instant Refund or Cash Refund as per the policy below.

Replacement of Participants

Participants can be replaced through the Mountain Hike dashboard if the booking status is “Paid” and at least 5 days remain before departure. If you face issues, email themountainhike@gmail.com with a screenshot of the error. The new participant must submit a signed undertaking form.

Note: Any Volvo/Train transport booked for the original participant will be automatically canceled and is non-transferable.

Cash Refund Policy

Cash refunds apply only for bookings made without promotional codes or vouchers. Refund amounts will be deducted as follows:

  • 30+ days before departure: 5% deduction
  • 15-30 days before departure: 50% deduction
  • Less than 15 days before departure: No Refund

Refunds will be processed to the original payment method and are based on the Base Price of the trek, excluding transport, insurance, and portage fees.

Voucher Refund Policy

Voucher refunds are available for all types of bookings, including promotional offers. Refund amounts will be:

  • 5+ days before departure: No deduction
  • Less than 5 days: No Refund

Vouchers are valid for 10 months from the date of issue. The refunded voucher amount does not include service tax paid during the original booking.

Cancellation or Change Initiated by Mountain Hike

We reserve the right to modify or cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather conditions, natural disasters, low participation, or any force majeure events. If this occurs, you will be given the choice of:

  • A replacement event of equivalent value
  • A full refund (processed as a voucher valid for 6 months)

If cancellation is due to low participation, participants can choose between a cash refund or a voucher.

Changes/Cancellation After Departure

Due to Force Majeure

No refund will be provided for cancellations due to force majeure after departure.

Other Reasons

If cancellations occur for reasons other than force majeure, we will attempt to arrange alternative services or provide a refund in the form of a 6-month voucher (or cash, if preferred).

Participant Dropout During the Event

No refund will be provided if a participant voluntarily drops out of the trek. Any additional costs incurred for return arrangements will be borne by the participant.

Early Return from an Event

If a participant returns early due to force majeure or an event ending sooner than planned, additional expenses (extra nights, transport) must be covered by the participant.

Emergency Evacuation

In case of a medical emergency, we will arrange evacuation to the nearest hospital. Any costs for porters, vehicles, ambulance services, or hospitalization must be covered by the participant.
