Trek Overview

Pangarchulla Peak Trek – The Chimney Peak of Garhwal
Part of the famous Lord Curzon Trail in the Garhwal Himalayas, Pangarchulla Peak stands tall at about 14,700 feet and offers an exciting challenge for trekking and mountaineering enthusiasts. Known as the “Chimney Peak,” this trek is accessible year-round, but it’s during winter that it reveals its true grandeur — blanketed in snow and filled with thrilling ascents. The journey begins from Joshimath, with the trail starting at Dhak village. Trekkers pass through terraced mountain villages, oak and rhododendron forests, and vast meadows framed by majestic peaks like Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, Hathi-Ghoda, and Dronagiri. The climb to the summit includes a steep ridge section, offering panoramic views of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary and the glittering snowfields surrounding it.
During winter, Pangarchulla’s gentle snow slopes provide both adventure and safety — perfect for those seeking a balance between thrill and tranquility. Along the route, trekkers may encounter diverse Himalayan flora and fauna, including oaks, birches, and occasional musk deer. With its breathtaking scenery, varied terrain, and pure alpine charm, the Pangarchulla Trek stands out as one of Uttarakhand’s most rewarding high-altitude adventures.
