Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: Drive Dehradun to Lokhandi and trek to Saraswati
The pickup point is Dehradun railway station. Get on your vehicles that will take you on a scenic mountain ride. The road passes through Chakrata, a serene hill station that was once a British cantonment. Unlike Nainital, Chakrata remains a peaceful, untouched paradise.
During the journey, witness gushing waterfalls and lush greenery. Arrive at Lokhandi, a picturesque base village, in approximately 4 hours. The trek starts with a brief warm-up walk on the road before entering dense forests filled with deodar, pine, oak, and other coniferous trees.
In winter, this section remains covered under a thick blanket of snow. As you venture deeper into the forest, the trail becomes steeper towards the end. Suddenly, the forest opens up to reveal the stunning clearing of Saraswati campsite, offering glimpses of the peaks that await you on the next day.

The initial trail section is steep but gradually levels out. The trek transitions from dense forests to light woods before opening into vast, clear meadows. As the sun rises, watch the majestic peaks of the Greater Himalayan range come into view. This is the perfect moment to capture the golden glow on the snow-covered mountains.
After approximately 5-6 km, you will reach the highest point—Vyas Shikhar, an amphitheater of grand Himalayan peaks. A stone engraving at the site, labeled "Views of the Himalayas from Vyas Shikhar," provides directional guidance to the major summits visible from here.
Marvel at the breathtaking views of some of the tallest peaks, including Nanda Devi (7,816m), Hardeol (7,151m), Trishul (7,120m), Chaukhamba (7,138m), Kedarnath (6,940m), Dunagiri (7,066m), Kedardome (6,831m), Kalanag (6,373m), Bandarpunch (6,102m), Srikantha (6,133m), Swargarohini Massif (6,252m), Kirti Stambh (6,270m), Nanda Ghunti (6,309m), Sumeru Parvat (6,351m), and many more.
After soaking in the views and having lunch, begin your descent to Koti Kanasar. From there, board your vehicle for the return journey to Dehradun, arriving by evening.
